Basically the rules are: each team has up to 3 Pokémon. You set them up on the front row and in the back row. Pokémon in the back row are safe from most attacks (as long as there's a Pokémon in your front row), but are 30% slower. Each Pokémon has 2 attack slots and 1 ability slot. Before the battle, you pick which of them you want to use depending on the opponents you're facing.
